about

East Coast Byulsingut and jazz, balance and harmony based on improvisation

Complexed and strong improvisation rhythm, unique and originative melody. It is a common point between jazz and East Coast music. In the <Byulsinak> stage, which focuses on these things in common, it reproduces the harmonious melody and rhythm in a modern way and brings out the depth and variety of music.
In addition to Jo Jong-hun, who keeps the essence of East Coast ancestral music, Australia's drummer Simon Barker fully understands and manages his own style.
Jazz drums, jazz pianos, and Korean traditional musical instruments such as Saenghwang, Piri, Taepyeongso and Yanggeum will show balance and harmonious based on improvisation.

Encounter two genres of improvisation - The harmony of jazz and the East coast

Korean gut music has a strong improvisation, These characteristics are unquestionably revealed in the East Coast Byulsingut. In particular, the instrumentation of the East Coast Byulsingut music is composed only of percussion instruments, unlike the gut music of other regions, and plays a leading role in all consciousness music. As the conscious music consisted only of percussion instruments was continuously carried around the specific family for a long time, the musical structure of rhythm was strengthened. In addition, the long rhythm cycle possessed by each rhythm of the East Coast Byulsingut has the characteristic that the structure and texture of the rhythm can be changed in various ways according to the musical competence of the performer because the rhythm variation is easy.
Based on the original characteristics of this East Sea Byulsingut, I would like to create works with other genres within the range of not compromising the prototype. In this performance, we try to expand the possibilities of Korean jazz by combining jazz improvisation and harmony with the rhythm melody of the East Coast Byulsingut through collaboration with jazz musicians.
